Now that President Obama has finally gotten down his nominations list to FCC Chair, Chief Information Officer and Chief Technology Officer things are starting to heat up in Washington, so that means we need to catch up and consider what this means for our communications environment. We also review some noncommercial TV stations asking the FCC to turn off their analog signals before the extended April 12 deadline, and the FCC opening up public comment regarding the public service channels to be allocated on Sirius/XM as a condition of their merger.

So much has happened–and yet, not happened–in the new year with a new Congress and a new president, that it’s time for a news update. DTV delay gets bogged down in the House, net neutrality-looking stuff is passed in House stimulus package, and Cox Communications announces plans to start messing with customers’ broadband Comcast-style.

First up is the growing list of politicos and groups calling for a delay of the Feb. 17 digital TV transition. We also touch on Sun Times Media shutting down suburban newspaper and Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan looking into allegations that AT&T is shortchanging public access channels on its U-Verse service.
