John Downing is Professor of International Communication at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He is known for his work on media and race and ethnicity as well as examinations of radical media. He spoke to the Participatory Media Reading Group at the University of Illinois on April 22, 2005. In this talk he shares his background and interest in radical media, and lays out four areas that deserve more study, including indigenous peoples’ movements and Indymedia.
